If this happens, there is a future for the people of the east. If not, there will be a 'puppet government' only for 'show' to the world that 'democracy' has been reestablished! Sat, 17 May 2008 11:07:12 +0000 http://federalidea.com/focus/archives/450#comment-11956 Who is going to guide Pillayaan,in administrative and relevant matters. What type of a person he is?Will he listen? We do not know about Pillayaan's educational baground. I think he is an early School dropout. The post of ChiefMinister is not like that of aPlatoon Commander. It involves interraction with men of Wisdom and knowledge. He is no Varatharjaperumal. I think there is a motive behind appointing Pillayaan as a cheif Minister. He will be used as a puppet and the President's brother will pull the strings. We will have to wait and see whether Pillayan's writ will run through the entire Eastern Province.will he have to an unhonourable exit we do not now.Only time can teel. If you look at Jaffna, the army has 25,000+ troops stationed there to maintain a tight grip on the peninsula. So how many troops would it cost the army to keep a tight grip on Batticaloa and the rest of the East? The army needs to use its full strength against the LTTE in the Vanni. So if Rajapaksa lets the TMVP cadre control some parts of the East, then this will free up troops to attack the Vanni. Then after Rajapaksa defeats the LTTE in the Vanni (which is unlikely), he can turn around and force the TMVP to surrender their arms. In the past, I have read that the TMVP is not even a group, but actually split up into many factions and that these different factions take orders from the SL military intelligence. If this is still true, then the TMVP retaining arms is not a threat to the state. And then the TMVP groups have become more like paramilitaries. In terms of Eelam War IV, I don't think it is in Rajapaksa's interest to disarm the TMVP just yet. From a military perspective, Rajapaksa should allow TMVP cadre to continue to hold their guns.
